    SMC is made from humic acid in brown coal by sulfonation and other chemical modifications. It is a free flowing black powder and has a PH of approximately 10.0. Since the insoluble residues have been removed during the production process, a productof maximum solubility, purity and overall effectiveness is assured. SMC is an excellent fluid loss control agent and thinner for all types of water base drilling muds in areas of low mineralisation(NaCl < 3%). It can effectively inhibit the dispersion of clay under high temperature, improve the high temperature stability and reduce the H.T.H.P. filtration of muds. SMC has a good compatibility with other common mud additives. The so-called“Three Sulfonates” mud system containing SMC as the basic treating agent can meet the requirements of fresh water, salt water and saturated salt water muds in 200~250℃environments.

treatment

1. Normal treatment in fresh water muds as a thinner is about 1%;
2. As a thinner for muds at high temperature: 2~3%.
